Teamwork

Teamworking is different from team-building.  It measures the degree to which teams are the building block of the organisation, where teams have full responsibility for an entire product or service.

My Rating

MEASURES

1

People think of themselves as just doing a job, not in a team.

Co-operation between work-groups is patchy; there is rivalry and

points-scoring between teams.

Workers don’t act as a team with management  –  it’s difficult to

make changes without suspicion or opposition.

2

Staff generally co-operate with changes the company wants to make.

Work-groups have specific measurable team objectives.

Staff know who their customers are, external and internal.

They look like a team, help each other to get the job done.

3

Work groups meet as a team daily, or at least monthly.

Team members and team leaders all have clear roles.

They make specific performance contracts with customers.

They display performance data publicly in their team area.

Staff are multi-skilled and can cover a variety of jobs.

4

Teams are organised around processes or products.

Teams set their own objectives, manage their own budgets, resolve problems and make innovations.

Cross-disciplined project teams used to tackle big issues.

5

Teams exist everywhere, and have become a way of life.

Self-directed teams are set up and working effectively.

The versatility in teams means they cope with change well.

Teams celebrate achievements and expect success.

So when you want to use this Score Card under Teamwork you must do it like this:

Step1:Based on your company status now are you at Rating 1 of the Teamwork Assessment. If you have similar status as the measures indicated at Level 1 then tick the measure/s.

Step2:Also read the other measures as stated at Level 2 of the Teamwork assessment chart.Like just now,do you have some same measures or performance at Level 2?

Step 3: Same like step 2,do you have some measures on Level 3 and so on till you reach the Level 5 rating. If you have any measures in your company or organisation at Level 5 then congratulations you are World Class!Keep the performance always. If you have at Level 1 then you are just ordinary level. If you are not even at Level 1 then you are poor performance and need lots of improvements to help you improve the ratings.

Most starters are now at Level 1 and some at Level 3.So when you do a Workshop on this 12 Ladders to World Class Performance it helps you to analyse and evaluate your company performance first as an individual then with your group and finally with the total participants present in the Workshop.

This will give you an overall result on the Teamwork factor and what is your company’s current rating?

So,all of you need to study the improvements need to be made so that you can move from eg.Level 3 to Level 4 and finally Level 5 (World Class)

This is a good objective way of knowing where are your strong points and weak performing areas as far as Teamwork factor is concerned? So unless you have teams established everywhere in the company like QCC@ICC and or KIK in Msian Govt Agencies then only you have performed at Level 5 (World Class) in the Teamwork ScoreCard.

There are 11 more Ladders to analyse and evaluate and after you have done all 12 will you have a Good Assessment of your Company’s Performance and what are the Top 4 Priority Areas to take action immediately and then next 4 plus the least important (can do later) 4 areas?

Sometimes some company only want to tackle the First 2 important areas like Customer Focus and Teamwork as their 1st Priority. Its all up to you but like the Guru Prof Drennan have advised just select the Top 4 (max) as the 1st Priority areas to take action.

During Ramli’s last few Workshops there are comments from participants about adding other focus areas like Financial Performance and Human Capital but as far as this training we focus on the 12 areas that Prof.Drennan have selected for this study.

This is not a limited scope approach but can be expanded as you master these initial Ladders and make improvements or innovative approaches later on in your Journey to World Class Performance.

For booking of Training dates which is for 3 days,Ramli hope you will called him at HP:019-2537165 or email: ramlipromoter@yahoo.com for a detail proposal and agenda of the 3 days Workshop.

Thank You.

World Class Score-Card

The exercise you are about to participate in is a “mini audit” of where your organisation is on 12 key benchmarks of world class practice.  These 12 key benchmarks represent the Life Skills of world class practice, the elements that

“everybody in the organisation can do something about every day”.

Step One

Read through each one of the 12 Ladders contained in the following pages.  You will see each Ladder is divided into five categories, ranging from statements at Level 1 representing ordinary performance up to Level 5 representing ‘world class’.

As you read through them, indicate with a tick (/) in the “Where We Are Now” section of the scoring table (page 6) at what level you think your organisation is now on the particular Ladder concerned.  If you are undecided between one level and the next (e.g. between level 1 and level 2) choose the level which most applies.

Step Two

You can’t tackle everything at once, so the next step is to prioritise the Ladders on their importance for your organisation at the present time.  Allocate each of the Ladders to one of the three categories below, putting only four into each category.

Category 1 :   Must do, requires urgent attention in the short to medium term.

(Remember you can only choose 4 ladders in Category 1)

Category 2 :   Should do, requires attention in the medium to long term.

(Remember you can only choose 4 ladders in Category 2)

Category 3 :   Can wait, requires attention once we have dealt with Category 1 and Category 2 Ladders.

Step Three

Take action.  Now that you know where your priorities lie, start taking action to get your company or your team on to the next step of the Ladders which would have most value to you and your customers.  And don’t think that those companies already at world class level are somehow uniquely filled with exceptional people.  They aren’t.  They simply used the best operating practices they could find, put them into practice, and launched themselves on an ongoing programme of continuous improvement.  So start now on your own journey towards world class performance.

example of one of the 12 focus areas:Note:The rating is based on Scale of 1 to 5.1 means ordinary performance and 5 means World Class Performance.

Customer Focus

The extent to which everybody in the organisation understands how service is measured, to recognise the needs of both internal and external customers.  The degree to which the organisation is truly customer-focussed.

My Rating

MEASURES

Many managers and staff don’t think they have customers.

In‑company, people know their customer is the next process.

Customer complaints are seen as a nuisance, and something to get rid of as soon as possible.

At least 80% of orders delivered to customers on time.

3

The company uses real survey data to measure performance.

Internal customers make contracts across departments.

Written service standards established in every department.

Complaints seen as an opportunity to create improvements.

At least 90% of orders delivered in full and on time.

4

Customer data discussed regularly at Board Meetings.

Service standards met and exceeded across the company.

Understanding What YOU can do  to be a World Class Organisation

3 Day Workshop Programme

Facilitator:

Ramli Abu Hassan

Malaysia’s Representative for Prof.David Drennan-World Class Performance Study,Implementation and Audit.

Programme Introduction

Is YOUR organization World Class ?

Most managers strive for world class status, but few know how to achieve it.

The book titled “12 Ladders to World Class Performance” written by Professor David Drennan from UK describes the practical ideas and techniques that have helped companies around the world to elevate themselves from the ordinary to be world class performers they are today.

Each of the 12 key benchmarks of World Class practice is presented as an ascending ladder, separated into five steps.Drennan and Pennington (co-author) will guide your organization on its journey from Level1,representing ordinary performance,to Level 5 –World Class.

Ramli Abu Hassan,55,the Founder and Principal Consultant of Diversified Promotion & Service Sdn.Bhd.(DPS)from 1996 to 2012 and now the Principal Consultant of Ramli Abu Hassan Training & Consultancy(RAHTC)from 19thJune,2012 till today as well as being a Writer,Promoter,Speaker and Practitioner of Total Quality & Productivity with almost 20 years working experience with a Major Multi-National Japanese company (Matsushita/Panasonic)and an ex-Banker with a local Bank(Affin Bank Berhad) have now taken the initiative(since Dec 2005 till today) to promote and teach the subject of The 12 Ladders to World Class Performance to all Malaysian companies and organizations both in the private and government sectors.

This subject was initially introduced in Malaysia through Professor David Drennan,Founder and Managing Director of Good People Management International Ltd of UK in Dec,2005 organised and promoted by Diversified Promotion & Service Sdn.Bhd.(DPS) together with the support of Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) and Asian Productivity Organisation (APO).Prof Drennan provided examples of the world’s leading corporations and how to adapt their routes to success to meet the needs of  the participants’ own organizations. This journey to world class status is accessible to large and small companies alike. It is a question of learning a new mindset and adopting key practices that everybody in the company can do something about every day.

There is a great divide in this country for organisations to become world class, but it is not easy to find people to show just what it takes to get to that level of performance.According to Professor Drennan,he says getting to world class performance standards is not an event,it is a step by step journey, and has written his book specifically so you can see exactly where your company is today on 12 different world class factors. Here are the factors:

  1. 1.                  Aligning Management Objectives
  2. 2.                  Customer Focus
  3. 3.                  Organising the Workplace
  4. 4.                  Visible Measurement Systems
  5. 5.                  Managing For Quality
  6. 6.                  Eliminating Waste
  7. 7.                  Best Operating Practices and Continuous Improvement
  8. 8.                  Teamwork
  9. 9.                  Staff Empowerment and Involvement
  10. 10.              Rewards and Recoqnition
  11. 11.              Purposeful Communications
  12. 12.              Continuous Learning

Under each of these factors,Professor Drennan has described five levels of performance, from ‘ordinary’ at Level 1,to ‘world class’ at Level 5.When they see the descriptions, most companies place themselves to start with at only Level 1 or 2.But they can also see just what they have to do to take themselves to the next level. That way, they can start Climbing the Ladders to World Class Performance.
